How much are you actually helping?

A couple of days ago in one of our classes we were having a discussion about the recent events in Bangladesh and as I left the class with one of my friends he turned to me and asked if I was still prepared to shop at these stores. My first reaction was to say "Of course not!" but then after further contemplation I have come to a rather different more controversial conclusion. Nothing is black and white. Yes these people are most definitely being shamelessly exploited but in what way does cutting off their already minimal income help? As I see it the entire thing is like a line of dominoes. You have to gently deal with it piece by piece or everything just falls apart. For example if you stop buying from… say Walmart, it is the equivalent of slapping the middle pieces of your line of dominoes. It may seem like you are solving part of the problem but if you look to your sides the trouble has just begun. I suggest a less tactful method. If you want something to happen you have to make those in power aware of this. You can't just stop buying from a company and expect results. You have to tell them that you stopped and why. As a consumer you have the power to change the economy. You are supplied with what you demand and if better working conditions in factories is what you demand then eventually you’ll get it.

Whats the secret to your transformation?

Ok I've watched this a few times and I'm still not quite sure what to think. It totally took me by surprise. At first I thought it would just be a really boring cream commercial. You know the usual suspects: "OMG I love this cream! It's so affective! Almost as affective as the six hours worth of work on photo shop! YAY!" (Fine I'm exaggerating just a bit) But when I actually watched it I was really taken aback. After a watched it a couple more times I started to find it oddly funny. It evoked a lot of emotion that I couldn't, and still can't, trace back to its source. Whatever emotion it was evoking worked because I kept thinking about it for quite a while after I watched it. I think it was very powerful and thought evoking. I think the main reason that this made such an impression was because it made you feel guilty and fearful. In conclusion it was a great PSA on racism. I have to give props to the person who came up with this idea. I think that the shock of this add is really affective and definitely worth spreading.

The Battle of the Titans: M&M's vs. Starbursts!!

Disclaimer: This is not endorsed by M&M's. This blog was created for my English class.

M&M's are the best candy you can buy because they can help brighten any rainy day. Also M&M's have less artificial flavourings than other leading brands such as Starbursts. But wait! There's more! M&M's use far less packaging then most other candy. So by eating M&M's you are helping to reduce your carbon footprint!

Some Starburst aficionados argue that Starbursts are superior because they are colourful but we say that this is false because no pretty colour could ever beat the smooth flavour of milk chocolate wrapped in a crunchy sugar case.
